Yelp and Apple Maps Now Power ChatGPT — Here's What Dental and Orthodontic Practices Need to Know

If a new patient asks ChatGPT, "Who are the best orthodontists near me?" — your Yelp profile and Apple Maps listing are now part of that answer. This isn't a future prediction. It's happening right now, and most practices have no idea.

Last updated: April 2026 By Chad Kubik, RoosterGrin Media

Here's what changed, why it matters, and exactly what to do about it.

What Changed: Yelp Is Now Inside ChatGPT

In February 2026, Yelp announced a content licensing agreement with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The deal gives ChatGPT access to Yelp's entire database — more than 330 million reviews, 500 million photos, and 8+ million business listings — to power local business search results directly inside ChatGPT.

This followed a similar deal Yelp struck with Perplexity AI, another fast-growing AI search engine. The pattern is clear: the AI search engines are building local search on top of Yelp's data.

What does that mean for your practice? When someone uses ChatGPT to search for a dentist, orthodontist, or oral surgeon nearby, ChatGPT pulls from Yelp. Your star rating, your reviews, your photos, your business name — all of it becomes part of the AI's answer.

If your Yelp listing is incomplete, outdated, or branded under an old name, that's what the AI will surface. If your competitor's Yelp profile is clean, accurate, and full of recent photos and reviews, they get the referral.

Apple Maps Is Getting Ads — and Siri Already Talks to ChatGPT

The Siri + ChatGPT Connection

Since December 2024, Apple's Siri has been integrated with ChatGPT. When a patient on an iPhone asks Siri a question Siri can't answer well, Siri asks for permission and routes the query to ChatGPT. No OpenAI account required.

Apple Maps queries that flow through Siri can now tap into ChatGPT's knowledge — meaning your Apple Maps listing is indirectly connected to the AI search ecosystem.

Apple Maps Ads Are Launching Summer 2026

On March 24, 2026, Apple announced that paid advertising is coming to Apple Maps in the U.S. and Canada, launching in summer 2026 as part of the expanded "Apple Ads" platform.

Here's what the Apple Maps ad experience will look like:

  • One sponsored listing per search. Only one ad appears per search query — minimal clutter, maximum visibility for the winner.
  • Blue halo around the sponsored pin. Paid listings are identified with a small blue halo around the location pin on the map.
  • Top of search results placement. Ads appear at the top of the results list when users search for a type of business or service.
  • "Suggested Places" surface. A new discovery feature inside Apple Maps shows trending and personalized recommendations — ads appear here too.
  • Pay-per-outcome model. Advertisers only pay when users view or tap their ad.
  • Privacy-first by design. Location data and ad interactions are not associated with Apple Accounts and are not shared with third parties.

For dental and orthodontic practices, this is a highly targeted, high-intent opportunity. Someone searching Apple Maps for your service is physically near your office and actively looking.

Why This Matters More Than You Think

AI-powered search is already live and growing fast:

  • Approximately 45% of Google searches now show an AI Overview at the top of results
  • ChatGPT and Perplexity together handle hundreds of millions of queries per month
  • Apple Maps runs natively on over 1.5 billion devices

Your practice doesn't need to be everywhere. But it needs to be accurate and optimized everywhere it already exists — because those platforms are now powering the AI answers patients are trusting.

How to Rebrand or Update Your Practice on Yelp

If your practice has changed its name, moved, or undergone a brand refresh, here are the exact steps to update your Yelp listing.

Step 1: Log in to Yelp for Business

Go to biz.yelp.com and sign in with your owner or manager account.

Step 2: Navigate to Business Information

In the left-side menu, click "Business Information."

Step 3: Update Your Business Name

Edit the business name field. Include external proof of the rebrand in the "Additional Context" field. Yelp moderators look for confirmation on your website, Facebook, or a news mention before approving a name change.

Step 4: Update Your Categories

Select up to three categories. If your practice now focuses on orthodontics specifically, make sure that's reflected — it affects how Yelp (and ChatGPT) categorize and surface your listing.

Step 5: Upload New Photos

Go to "Photos and Videos" and upload fresh, branded photos. Yelp photos appear inside ChatGPT results. Outdated or low-quality images hurt your presentation in AI-powered answers.

Step 6: Wait for Approval

Yelp moderators review name change requests. Having external proof significantly speeds this up. If only the name changes and the practice stays the same, your review history is preserved.

How to Rebrand or Update Your Practice on Apple Maps

Apple Maps listings are managed through Apple Business Connect at business.apple.com.

Step 1: Sign In to Apple Business Connect

Go to business.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID that manages your business.

Step 2: Select Your Brand

In the sidebar, click "Brands" and select your practice.

Step 3: Update Your Brand Name

Edit the brand name field. This change affects all locations associated with that brand and requires Apple approval.

Step 4: Upload a New Logo

Click "Add" or "Change" next to the logo image. Use the Square and Circle preview buttons to see how your logo appears on Place Cards in Apple Maps and Apple Wallet.

Step 5: Update Your Categories

Update your primary category. This determines when Apple Maps recommends you in local searches — and when Siri routes patients your direction.

Step 6: Submit for Review

Click "Send for Review." Changes take up to 5 business days to appear across Apple services.

Tip: Coordinate your Apple Maps update with your physical signage changes. Patients get confused when the name on your door doesn't match Apple Maps.

What to Do Right Now: A Quick Checklist

  1. 1 Claim and verify your Yelp listing if you haven't already
  2. 2 Audit your Yelp photos — upload at least 10 high-quality images of your team, office, and treatment areas
  3. 3 Claim your Apple Business Connect listing at business.apple.com and verify your location
  4. 4 Make sure your business name matches everywhere — your website, Yelp, Apple Maps, and Google Business Profile should all reflect the same current brand name
  5. 5 Keep an eye on Apple Maps Ads — when the ad platform launches in summer 2026, early adopters will have an advantage in a low-competition environment

The Bottom Line

The platforms patients trust most — Yelp, Apple Maps, and ChatGPT — are now deeply connected. A clean, accurate, well-maintained listing on Yelp and Apple Maps isn't just good practice hygiene anymore. It's how your practice gets found, cited, and recommended by AI.

Most of your competitors haven't thought about this yet. That's your window.
